The Parliament of Montenegro has adopted the Law on Amendments to the Law on Social and Child Protection.

Allowance for a Newborn Child

One of the parents, an adopter, guardian, or foster parent may be entitled to a one-time allowance for a newborn child until the child reaches one year of age, amounting to 900 euros, while the allowance for beneficiaries of social assistance amounts to 1,000 euros.

Eligible Beneficiaries

The right to a one-time allowance for a newborn child can be granted to:

  1. A beneficiary who was entitled to a one-time allowance for a newborn child during the period from January 1, 2022, until the day this law comes into effect, but who did not claim the right under the regulations that were in force until the day this law comes into effect.
  2. A beneficiary who was entitled to a one-time allowance for a newborn child during the period from January 1, 2022, until the day this law comes into effect, and who claimed this right under the regulations that were in force until the day this law comes into effect.
  3. A beneficiary who is entitled to a one-time allowance for a newborn child after the law comes into effect.

Beneficiaries mentioned in point 2 are entitled to a one-time allowance for a newborn child in the amount of the difference between the allowance paid under the regulations in force until the day this law comes into effect and the new allowance amount established by the updated regulations.

Personal Disability Allowance

The Personal Disability Allowance, which is 178.19 euros per month, will be extraordinarily adjusted by 25% starting from February 1, 2023. The competent state administration authority will issue the adjustment act.

This law was published in the “Official Gazette of Montenegro,” No. 3/22, dated January 10, 2023, and takes effect on the eighth day following its publication.
